Wedding Photographer based in Derbyshire
Thank you for visiting
My name is Nigel Tissington: I was born in Derby and currently live in beautiful rural Derbyshire, where I am based to photograph weddings in the local area or throughout the UK
My start in Photography
I have had a strong interest in photography since discovering the magic of the darkroom as a child in the 1960s. This was through rummaging around an old dusty attic! The attic was in my grandparents' large Victorian house in Belper Road, near Darley Park in Derby. I found old glass negatives and darkroom dishes. My grandparents had obviously been interested in photography in its earliest stages! Photography must be in my DNA! I was destined to become a photographer... I persuaded my parents to supply me with chemicals and paper, and the fascination with image-making has continued!
I studied Fine Art on the Foundation Course at Derby College of Art on Kedleston Road in Derby. Then, in the 1970s, I went into Higher Education in art and commercial photography at the School of Photography in Birmingham. At the end of the course I exhibited a one-man show of Fine Art Photography (an area in which I am still active) at the Birmingham Arts Lab
Work in Photography in London
I got my first job in photography straightaway after college in a studio in London near Farringdon and the Blackfriars Bridge. The excitement and energy of London inspired me! I was soon also freelancing as a wedding photographer in and around Essex and Greater London, as well as becoming a freelance press photographer for local North London newspapers. The press work at that time still involved black and white film and dripping chemicals in the soft red light of the darkroom!
My passion for sharing the excitement of image-making drew me into teaching. I have lectured at the University of Derby, teaching studio photography on the BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Communication. I also established several courses in photography for Adult Education in the City of Derby and Derbyshire nd Nottinghamshire Counties. The courses were firstly in traditional photography from GCSE to City and Guilds levels. Then as digital imaging began to take hold, I introduced digital courses. These courses included staff training sessions for Derbyshire Constabulary and local County Councils. I presently teach privately both camera skills and photo-editing. The teaching environment also helps to keep abreast of the latest trends in photography and its technical development which is a positive attribute which I bring to your wedding photography
Work in Photography in Derby and Derbyshire
Relocating to Derbyshire saw me freelancing for local press, establishing a schools photography service and launching and running a family, commercial and fashion photography studio in Darley Abbey, in Derby... as well as beginning to explore the lovely locations available in the area for Wedding Photography. This knowledge of the local area enables me to help with suggestions for your wedding photography, to get the look you are after
Working with people
All of my work has involved photographing people, whether it's fun and raucous teenage party photoshoots in a studio; sensitive press work involving special needs people; politicians looking for PR; musicians or dancers promoting their talents on the internet; glamorous model portfolios or large wedding parties...
Wedding Photography experience
I love the opportunity to be involved with lots of different types of weddings... for example, I've photographed religious weddings at Westminster Cathedral and Derby Cathedral; formal uniformed marriages at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich; beautiful civic ceremonies in Derbyshire locations such as Blackbrook House, Kedleston Hall and Tutbury Castle; same gender weddings. I’ve had the privilege of being the official photographer at Chinese and Jewish weddings; huge family festive ceremonies at Greek and Italian marriages; laid back Afro-Caribbean weddings; Pagan weddings… not to mention small but good old-fashioned knees up in local community venues!
Your Wedding Photography
I bring this range of experience, excitement of creating images that people love, and enthusiasm and energy to your wedding, to help you attain the style of photography you're looking for and make sure your day goes as you dream, whether it’s with a high energy contemporary swing, an uplifting spiritual religious or meaningful civic experience, or a small tranquil family affair... I’ll help you to celebrate the beginning of your new life together
